Challenges in Linked Data consumption

Abstract
The Web of Data has become increasingly popular in recent times. Linked Data practices for publishing and connecting structured data on the Web have been adopted by an increasing number of providers. But how is this ever-growing Web of Data used and what applications arise from consuming Linked Data? The consumption as of now seems be largely limited to traversing and browsing, with only hinting at using the distinct features the Web of Data portrays.
What challenges are faced in consuming Linked Data due to its inherently distributed and often inconsistent nature? Several problem fields arise in this context:
- the handling of provenance and trust,
- information quality,
- scalability issues,
- handling of highly dynamic data,
- multiple resource querying,
- URI management
- ...
This paper looks at typical Linked Data applications and the challenges such applications face when consuming Linked Data.
